(1794-1850)
Lithuanian talmudist. He was born in Sogindat in the Zamut region, and became known throughout Lithuania for his talmudic knowledge; he was also an expert on kabbalah. He served as rabbi of Slobodka in the Ukraine (1824-40) and later Kalisz in Poland. He was a fierce opponent of religious reform. He produced manuscript studies in all spheres of Torah study.
